Description

Heya, my lovelies!

Ahem. I’m not one of the most famous artists or anything, so even I am a little surprised at what I’m dong here. But many people have been asking me for tips at coloring, and the program I use, and how to do hair and whatnot. Some of you are very persistent too, might I add. :D Well, then, I decided to give it a shot! I’m no teacher, and I’m not as experienced as many greater artists out there, but I’ll do my best. ^^

This will be a tutorial focused on how to color hair in OpenCanvas 3.03. It’s not as resourceful as Photoshop or Painter, but it’s easiest to use and the end results are great. You can download the trial version at [link].
This is actually just a part, as in the fourth and last piece, of a tutorial I did for a friend. But since many people asked me...
Ergh. Sorry for the poor quality of the image, but I had to compress it to no end so I'd be able to post it. ^^;

Okay, I can’t help myself. I just have to give a few general tips, too. Don’t hate me. XD
People, be creative. Draw more than just a face, a nameless someone without any meaning to you. I mean, of course I draw them too, doodling away during German classes, hee, but whenever I draw more seriously, I try not to. I like to imagine… where does she come from? Why does she have a scar across her brow, why is her hair tousled, why doesn’t she smile? I try to add feeling to my characters’ eyes; I try to give them names, personalities, a story. Give their existence a meaning. It might even be annoying to others, when browsing though my gallery, to come across these huge comments I tend to write, but I just… like to show others what I had in mind when I was drawing. I like to show my characters’ feelings. I always end up writing a piece of their story.
By coloring, give them life. Give them a setting. It’s something I have yet to learn, I always shrink before the looming possibility of drawing a background.
Instead of choosing the easiest color scheme, challenge yourself. Go slowly if you must, I know I do. Up to now, there’s just one picture in my gallery I feel like I experimented enough with the lighting. All others are rather boring; the light source comes from before them, or slightly from the side. Just too predictable, to commonplace. Try to be imaginative, innovative, different. Experiment with different colors, why not? I still have to learn that, too.
Eeeeek I’m such a preaching old aunt! Sorry. Hoho. I try not to get too carried away, but I just love to write and stuff. I truly hope this was helpful, in some way at least! ^_^ Best of luck to all of you who asked me for help, this is for you!
:heart:

(And you know, I think this was utterly random, but well, even though I think there are better tutorials out there, I wanted to try. Eep.)
